Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking official said the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
