Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
